The Center for Senior Life has two primary functions: First it offers the recreational functions of an active senior community in Durham including: a theater, meeting facilities, large gathering spaces, classrooms, and offices for the Center administration as well as community service organizations. Second, the building has a 50-person Adult Day Care facility which was specially designed for persons suffering from various forms of cognitive dysfunction.
The building also functions as a community meeting place located adjacent to the “Central Park” area of Durham.
The building was designed with LEED principles although Durham County did not pursue full certification. The construction cost was in excess of $5,000,000.
